‘eSports Should be an Olympic event’ …….. said one of the creators and lead designer of World of Warcraft in his demand of turning the competitive events of eSports into an actual Olympic gathering as a verified sport.
Rob Pardo spoke to BBC assuring that there are “good arguments” happening on that matter. He discussed the definition of eSports and why it should be a part of the Olympics. With its broad appeal and millions of fans and spectators all around the world it wouldn’t be right to have it left out from being an Olympic event as a “mind sport” giving the huge efforts put into every single competitive match happening in its competitions.
“I think the way that you look at e-sports is that it’s a very competitive skillset,You look at these professional gamers and the reflexes are lightning quick and their having to make very quick decisions on the fly.” said Rob
“If you want to define sport as something that takes a lot of physical exertion, then it’s hard to argue that videogames should be a sport.” saying that “When you look at their ‘actions per minute’, they’re clearing over 300.”
eSports definition is getting wide recognition everywhere, with universities in the United States actually starting to give scholarships to professional players identifying them as sports figures. Will we be able to see an actual Olympic event of video games in the near future? only time can tell. But from the looks of it, that time isn’t very far away.
