FaZe Clan is back on top with their second CS:GO championship title of 2017, as they managed to win ESL One New York 2017 after showcasing impressive performance right up to the very end in front of North American favorite Team Liquid.
The champions swept Liquid 3-0 maps, winning first place and the grand prize of $125,000 in the process. The maps played in the best-of-five grand finals were Inferno, Overpass, and Mirage.
Inferno was absolutely a FaZe slaughter of Liquid, as they destroyed the North Americans with 15-0 in the first half. Finn “karrigan” Andersen and pals were dominating, and despite a shy comeback with Liquid gaining three points after the second pistol round, FaZe closed it out at 16-3 shortly after.
It was significantly better for Liquid on Overpass, despite being down 11-4 on the first half. Their successful late-game comeback almost scored them the map, but a round 30 3K from Nikola “NiKo“ Kovac ended the map in favor of FaZe 16-14, with him being the server’s top frag at 26 kills.
FaZe’s abilities were way too strong for the Liquid to handle, as they put up another 11-4 side on their Counter-Terrorist side predicting a similar outcome to the past two maps. A win in the second pistol round gave the Europeans enough momentum to close out the series with Team Liquid at a 16-4 scoreline. NiKo found himself again at the top frag spot with Håvard “rain” Nygaard at 23 kills and average damage per round stats at 125.8 and 110.7.
FaZe’s grand final win at ESL One shows that it has returned to form with the two new star players, Olof “olofmeister” Kajbjer and Ladislav “GuardiaN” Ladislav. This is GuardiaN’s second consecutive championship win at ESL One New York, as he also won last year with Natus Vincere .
