With the beloved battle royale game nearing its first year anniversary, it seems that the time has come to bring Apex Legends to the world of esports from its widest doors, with the unveiling of the game’s world championships series, available to everyone.
Respawn Entertainment developers, in cooperation with publishing company EA Games, revealed the first details of the Apex Legends Global Series, which will start early next year with more than 12 events distributed in 60 countries around the world, with the sum of prizes being the largest so far in the electronic game competition.
Global Series events will start on January 25th, and millions of players will compete for total prizes of $ 3 million distributed through 12 direct events that will continue throughout the year 2020, as players gain points according to their performance in local challenges and online, so that players with the biggest points are invited To four major tournaments called Apex Global Series Majors with a prize of $ 1 million.
“Competition is at the heart of Apex Legends,” Respawn CEO Vince Zampella said. “We expect that esports will play a big role in the future of Apex Legends and it all starts here, with the Apex Legends Global Series. The tournament will be available to PC players only this time in a similar way to other Battle Royal games such as PUBG and Fortnite, but other events may come to the home platforms later. Speaking of PUBG, Respawn’s announcement is similar to PUBG Corp. which also revealed PUBG Global Series with similar rules.
