China officially recognizes eSports as a profession

When a country with about 20% of the world’s population announces its official recognition of something, it is safe to say that that it is really important. That country is China with, which this weekend presented its official recognition of esports as an actual profession no less important than others

In the Chinese ministry of human resources and social security new report, competitive video games are now a recognized business area that includes a number of professions that are not limited to playing and competing, such as the profession of an expert in esports, a commentator for esports and more.

The new career list has coincided with the Chinese government’s official decision to support the growing field of esports and increase interest in its players. It is not surprising seeing Chinese teams make up a large proportion of the world’s best teams in esports with games such as Dota 2 and League of Legends And even PUBG. When you know that these games have millions of dollars worth of prizes, it is not difficult to see the justification for this type of interest.

However, some controversial titles and professions among players such as “Account Boosting” have been included as an actual profession is showing a problem that was expected to occur – the lack of government understanding of the video game field. There is a reason Riot Games punishes players who buy Boosting services that increase their hours or level, making the rating system unfair and misleading to players. This makes the option of including the sale of these services as a legal profession questionable, and it is not clear whether that classification is subject to discussion in the future.

Regardless, the advertising of esports careers as a formal business comes with good intent for the development of this new field, which is now one of the most interesting future businesses. With the increasing number of international competitions every day and more and more competitive new games, we are to see more international and local recognitions such as the Saudi official recognition through the Electronic and Intellectual Sports Federation and the UAE with plans to make Dubai the capital of global esports.
