The Epic Games development team has decided not to wait anymore for a strong entry into the arena of electronic sports, but will put some of the other games on the sidelines thanks to their new plans for the game Fortnite.
Epic Games has announced that it will be providing $100,000,000 for Fortnite esports tournament prize pools in the 2018-2019 season.
“Since the launch of Fortnite Battle Royale we’ve watched the passion for community competition grow and can’t wait to empower you to battle with the best,” read the update.
“In the 2018 – 2019 season, Epic Games will provide $100,000,000 to fund prize pools for Fortnite competitions. We’re getting behind the competitive play in a big way, but our approach will be different – we plan to be more inclusive, and focused on the joy of playing and watching the game.”
Epic hasn’t divulged any further details on its plans for upcoming tournaments, the format, or how players can sign up to be a part of it.
We’ll hear more about the “competitive structures and eligible platforms” in the next few weeks.
