ESL decided to invite ninth team to IEM Oakland 2017

We know that normally only eight teams have been invited to the IEM Oakland 2017 for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

But ESL has decided to change that, it has announced today the opening of the ninth seat among the teams invited to the championship, without providing more information or statements about the cause of these sudden changes.

In any case, we know only seven of the names of the teams invited, including SK, Astralis and Gambit. We had previously been waiting for the final team to be unveiled but we are now waiting for a second team.

There are 12 seats in the tournament, and four seats are usually left for the Qualifications winners. However, today’s news has removed one of the seats to only three for the Qualifications winners and nine for the teams.

The IEM Oakland 2017 will take place on November 16 and 19 at the Oracle Arena, with a $ 300,000 cash prize pending the first-round playoffs.

Here is a list of all the teams that have announced their invitation to participate in the tournament so far :

Astralis  FaZe
 G2  SK
 Cloud9  Liquid
 Gambit

Last year’s tournament saw strong competition, with Ninjas in Pyjama winning the trophy after beating the Brazilian giant SK Gaming and earning a $ 128,000 prize money.
