Mortal Kombat XL review

If the letter X in the name Mortal Kombat X indicates the tenth and most brutal installment in the fighting game franchise yet, then XL is all that and Bigger, better and badder than ever with this newest release.

In case you didn’t know, Mortal Kombat XL is the latest edition of last year’s Netherrealm fighting game. This release comes with everything included in the original game as well as all of the DLC characters across the two previously released Kombat Pack, making XL the definitive release for fighting game fans or even casual players who want to compete with their friends in MKX. Here you’ll find everything other people loved about the original game in its best suit.

It wouldn’t be fair to treat XL as a whole new game, as it’s still the same core game with the same gameplay modes and story mode. This isn’t necessary a bad thing, especially since this release is targeted at newcomers who waited to get a full release. Characters wise you’ll be getting 9 new characters available on disc for free, 8 of them are from Kombat Packs and Goro, the pre-order character.

The extended cast provides players with more style to play than ever. From the fast paced moves for the likes of Kung Lao and Liu Kang to magical abilities like Shinok and Ermac to the special weapons like Jason Voorhees. You’ll be sure to find at least a couple of favouite fighters in here. The best additional characters for us were Predator, Alien, Leatherface and Jason. All of which are iconic horror characters so it was fun to see them fighting each other.

Even though Mortal Kombat XL provides the same smooth gameplay of the original game, it still means that it has its flaws which are mainly on the combo side as the game is still not as deep as the likes of Street Fighter. Anyway, you’ll be sure to enjoy playing casually thanx to the amazing graphics and detailed animations in each round of the game.

The story mode was kinda lacking in here. Some people like it while others don’t but fighting games were never about story anyway. Gameplay elements weren’t as good as we hoped they would be and still facing some issues but it works fine enough for anyone looking for a match or two online.

So additional characters, core game with all of its updates, and more. Mortal Kombat XL is the definitive edition of the goriest fighting game in history.
